in spirit of casey's recent months of i heart market stalls, and in celebration of siblingmine's new online store and future store space, i thought i'd share some of my own market finds with you, from a while-ago trip to south america, where markets are all-important, to everyone.

so the photos below are of a handful of market things that i liked, some i wish i'd bought, some old things, new things, pretty things and strange things that i thought you'd like to look at- some picture-time to fill the gap while siblingmine takes an online break.

While scrounging around in my mom’s cupboard a couple of weeks ago, I came across a vintage cape that she hadn’t worn in a good 20 years. I snatched it up, changed the buttons and hemmed it a bit to give it an update of sorts. It’s one of the hottest items on the streets overseas at the moment and I spent R0 to get mine. I love hand-me-down treasures! {This is one is the Stella McCartney Double-Breasted Cotton Twill Cape }
A chunky sweater: Apparently it’s the coldest winter they’ve had in England in a good few years, so I’m bundling up against the cold like never before. Layering is the key because it’s freezing on the street but toasty and warm in the shops and restaurants. Layering will make it easy for me to keep warm / cool when I need it. {Miss Selfridge Brown Batwing Cardi}
A striped tee: perfect for layering and a key item at the moment {Matches Fashion}
My skinnies: The thing about denim is that when you first step out into the cold, you nearly freeze, but the more time you spend in them the warmer they become. I love to travel with my skinnies because I can tuck them into boots or wear them with my brogues – I love the versatility of them. You don’t get that with a straight or boot leg. {Topshop Skinny Jeans}
A beanie – need I say anymore? I’m not looking forward to hat hair though it must be said... {People Tree}
My Diana – there will be tons of cool pics waiting to be taken on streets of London town – my Diana will be at the ready at all times. And not having batteries means I don’t have to worry about her dying on me in the middle of shot! She’s the perfect travel companion.
Marie Biscuits – A little taste of home. While I’ll be staying in a pretty nice hotel that serves a great breakfast, I love cuddling in bed with a cup of tea and some maries to dunk in it before the hectic work starts for the day.
My Ipod – to drown out the world when there are a few too many people in my face!
Pounds, Pounds and more Pounds – I plan on spending quite a few of them in places like H&M, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, New Look, Primark and Zara, so my wallet will be flush with foreign currency!
A scarf to keep out the chill – I love the idea of print clashing so mixing a leopard print scarf with a striped tee to me is the ultimate way to layer. {Singer22}
Gloves to add a pop of colour {John Lewis}
A rucksack to keep all my bits and bobs in – a hands free kit of sorts so I can free up my hands to look through the sales racks! {Madewell}
Brogues – Ill be spending a lot of time walking and shopping on Oxford Street so I need good quality leather shoes to keep me going {Monsoon}
Fun socks – It’s all about the attention to detail. In London, people really know how to dress so I’ve got to bring my A-Game! {Modcloth}

the go-to visual collector obliged with a 'packing for paris' post

feverish for imminent travels

this is what we know about paris in january. it's really cold (2 degree lows and 6 degree highs) and it rains a plenty.

1. go thermal. there's no reason to wear all your clothes at once and look like a puff ball to prevent from freezing. that is why some clever person invented thermal underwear. my mom calls them spencers. get a spencer (aka thermal vest). kinda dorky, but it's under your clothes for a reason.

2. boots. as a tourist, you'll be walking a lot - so heeled shoes are a no no. it's also cold and wet as heck - so boots are the obvious choice. i'm quite partial to leather ones that look better with age and can withstand the cold, wet & sludgy parisian streets.

3. a coat. only take one. i know you're going to be tempted to take more than one because you want 'options' - don't. nine times out of ten you will only wear one of your coats! a warm one (insulated), preferably with a hood (when you don't want to carry an umbrella) and that you won't mind getting rained on. you take them off whenever you're inside anyway - the euros love their indoor heating.

4. enormously chunky cowl scarves. why not!

5. corduroy jeans. they are warmer than ordinary jeans, and they evoke that seventies vibe i love so much. (take normal jeans too though, at least 2 pairs - light / dark = day / night)

6. long cardigans. for layering.

7. tights / leggings. not the willy nilly opaque types - the thick wooly ones. awesome!

8. shirt dresses. the kind that can work over tights or jeans, that look great layered under cardigans and coats.

9. beanie. also good for covering up rainy hair syndrome.

10. one bag. i have learned this from months of travelling - you will only ever need one handbag. it has to be (a) big enough (b) have several pockets and (c) have a variety of handles so you can carry it by hand or strap it over your body when you're walking. alternatively, take a backpack.

11. one fancy outfit. a simple black dress + a pair of heels - done.

But my number one rule for packing - take 1/2 of what you think you need. You will want all that extra suitcase space to bring back most of Zara.

(I couldn't be more jealous if I tried)

we lost an 'i' 'p' and half 'y' ( previously dissolved by super glue ) in the quickmove ( thanks helpful friends ) fifteen minutes to kickoff when rapidly flapping yellow bunting strewn across the parking lot signalled the arrival of the south wester, and rain

which didn't drizzle/dazzle us at all

frantic two hours prior to the guests arrival was spurred on by moronic 'doing their duty' metro blocking off all entrance to the beachfront, and my street

not even tears would convince the kfc friendly blue badged stoic

luckily two others, swayed by the unmet promise of cake, obliged us with car entry in a sneaky lane

but all disparity dissipated once changed, adorned with hideous clangy perspex necklace ( as only nataniel can do ) and amassed by loved friends who spoilt me so ( cant believe these presents ... so special )

a well-fed penguin of gratitude to each person who obligingly cut and stuck yellow bunting, set tables, baked cupcakes, came to my party, belled, tweeted, facebooked or texted

i had a very happy day, just as you all wished me ... all thanks to you

im sure its going to be a wonderful, this twenty five
